Visas and Immigration

Travel to Australia during peak seasons

Are you planning to travel to Australia this holiday season? Here are some things to bear in mind to make sure you have a smooth trip:

Remember to allow sufficient time for processing of your visa

To avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend you submit your complete visa applications as early as possible.

We strongly advise that you do not pay for tickets unless you hold a valid visa.

Keep in mind that the Visa Office receives a large number of visitor visa applications during peak travel periods, so best to submit visa applications early.

Changes to Australian visa processing in Tonga

From 28 April 2016, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection will commence collecting biometrics from clients applying for Australian visas in Tonga.

Most clients lodging a visa application for Australia in Tonga will need to attend the Australian Visa Application Centre (AVAC) in person to provide biometrics unless they are excluded or exempted from the Programme.

Visa applicants in Tonga who submit their applications at the AVAC in Nuku’alofa from 28 April 2016 will be asked to provide their biometrics at the same time.

Visa applicants who mail their applications to the AVAC will be sent a letter requiring them to attend the AVAC to provide their biometrics.

Visa applicants who apply for online visas may need to provide their biometrics. If so, they will be sent an electronic letter requiring them to provide their biometrics at the AVAC.

The AVAC will charge a service fee for application submission and collection of biometrics. Please see the Service Delivery Partner (SDP) website below for more details.

Details of the AVAC in Tonga are as follows:
