Nutrition, healthy eating and community training in cooking skills are the focus of the Direct Aid Project launched by the Tonunga Youth of the Free Wesleyan Church of Lapaha on Friday, 19 April.

The youth group received the grant to equip the Tonunga Hall Church kitchen with cooking utensils and equipment that will be available for use by people in the Eastern District.

The leader of Lapaha\'s FWC Youth Ministry Siesi Hala\'api\'api told Radio Tonga news the project aims to boost locals knowledge on correct and healthy cooking skills.

It also aims to inspire the youth of the village to join in cooking lessons rather than engage in anti-social behaviour.

Community cooking lessons, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries, will begin later this year.

The Direct Aid Program is a flexible, small grants program funded by the Australian Government. The next round of funding will open in July 2013 and application forms will be available from the Australian High Commission. For more information, contact the DAP Coordinator on 23244 (ext. 114).
