COVID-19 and travel to Australia

Information for foreign nationals transiting Australia

For 72 hours from midday 21/03/2020 to midday 24/03/2020, foreign nationals meeting the below requirements will be allowed to depart New Zealand to transit through Australian airports en-route to another foreign destination.

These arrangements apply to any foreign national who is able to depart from New Zealand, including those who are trying to make their way from Pacific Island Countries.  Travellers will need to meet NZ border measures.

Foreign nationals who do not currently hold a visa to transit Australia (such as a Visitor visa), or are not subject Transit Without Visa arrangements will need to apply for an online transit visa. Passengers can apply at the following location: https://online.immi.gov.au.  A significant number of nationals will be able to access transit without visa arrangements which can be found at: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/transit-771/travellers-eligible-to-transit-without-visa.
